Course Description:
The fourth year of Spanish study focuses on grammar, conversational skills, the
reading of authentic materials and the further development of writing skills. The present,
preterit, imperfect, and future tenses will be reviewed, as will the subjunctive mood.
New verb tenses will be studied. Grammar points will be reviewed and expanded upon.
New vocabulary will be taught and used. Spanish IV students will read short pieces of
Hispanic literature.
Course Objectives:
The students will be able to understand, read, write and speak in Spanish at a
fourth year level. Their knowledge of Hispanic culture will also gain in depth.
Grading:
The school grading scale is used in Spanish IV. Assignments fall into the
following weighted categories:
Oral activities: 15% *
Quizzes:
30% **
Tests:
25%
Final:
10%
Compositions: 15%
Homework:
5% ***

*In addition to grades on oral presentations, this category will reflect the student’s effort
to speak only Spanish in the classroom.
***To receive points for homework, the correct assignment must be completed in its
entirety before class starts and must be brought to class. Students do not receive
partial credit for partially finished assignments.

Enfoques textbook.
Worksheets and other hand outs.
Attendance and missing work:
School policy is followed. To summarize, students have two days per excused
absence to make up work – unless otherwise specified by the teacher. This missing
work must be shown to me before classes start in the morning or after classes end in
the afternoon.
Additional practice and help:
I am always available before and after school for additional help and/or practice. I
enjoy working with smaller groups of students and always welcome the opportunity to do
so. Please feel free to see me after school or, if you are in extra-curricular activities,
arrange to see me before school.
