THE IMPIS
Living on the southeast coast of Africa were the Zulus, a fearless people and one of the most powerful
tribes in the country. Their warriors, called IMPIS, conquered the surrounding tribes using war tactics that were
later employed by modern nations.
The Zulu tribe was led by several tyrannical chiefs who slaughtered countless people. The power-hungry
Tsaka was the cruelest of these chiefs. When his mother died, he killed about 7000 of his own tribesmen for crimes
such as not grieving enough, and standing too straight or sneezing during funeral ceremonies. In 1828 Tsaka was
killed by his own people.
