Rosemount Elementary November 2008 Independent School District 196 Leprechaun Ledger ——————–“Educating our students to reach their full potential”——————— District’s online survey asking about school start times, world language at elementary schools and calendar preferences... District 196 is gathering input from parents, staff and secondary students through an online survey at www.district196.org through Saturday, November 8. Survey responses will guide district administration and the District Calendar Committee with recommendations to the School Board later this year. The survey has fewer than 15 total questions on three topics: 1) The possibility of changing school start times based on VETERANS DAY -- NOVEMBER 11 In the United States, November presents us with some events when we can reflect on the opportunities that we have living in this country. On Tuesday, November 4th we can exercise our democratic rights by voting for elected officials. Later in the month we celebrate with feasts, family and friends for all that we are thankful for. Each of these days can be attributed to our founding leaders and to those who have protected our country through their military service. research on the best times for students to learn. district elementary schools. 3) Calendar preferences for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years. Brief background information is provided on the survey for each of the three topics. Additional information is available in Superintendent John D. Currie’s “Focus on Education” column which was recently published in local weekly newspapers and is also available on the front page of the District 196 website. Veterans Day is November 11th. On this day we honor all of those who have served our country in the Armed Forces and National Guard. At Rosemount Elementary one of the activities we will do to honor our veterans is to create a Wall of Honor in our media center hallway. In your child’s Friday Folder you will find a letter from me giving directions on how to complete a form to salute a veteran in our school display. Please take time to work on this as a family to discuss its importance and value. Survey results will be available online after they are presented at the November 24 School Board meeting. Respectfully, 2) The possibility of adding a world language at all 18 Over the past month, Superintendent Currie and three district directors attended meetings of the school site councils to present information, have discussions and get input from parents and staff on these same three topics. The administration will present recommendations to the School Board on school start times and elementary world language in late November or December for the 2009-10 school year. The District Calendar Committee hopes to present proposed calendars to the School Board for approval in December or January.
