Jolanda Asmoredjo My research focuses on the effects of inter-organisational exchange of care professionals on organisations. What can care professionals from different cultural contexts learn from each other and what happens in their organisations as a result of the exchange? Exchanges between Dutch, Malawian and Namibian care professionals are used as case studies to answer these questions. Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, an appraisal of the organisations and the exchange participants is made, and the impact of the exchange is analysed. The confrontation of a completely different organisational culture and context is expected to have a liberating and empowering effect on individuals participating in the exchange. This is likely to resonate within the organisation where they are working, through their direct colleagues as well as their clients. Inter-organisational partnerships also have the potential to increase employees’ commitment to the organisation and can improve and strengthen an organisation’s external image. Witnessing and experiencing care delivery abroad may lead to practical ideas and initiatives to be implemented in the own organisation. Furthermore, established interpersonal and interorganisational ties can be utilised to find joint solutions to existing and emerging challenges. The research project is expected to finish in 2017.
