Common mode noise and high energy transients can
easily disrupt the operation of sensitive electronic
equipment. Poor quality power prone to this type of
interference can cause problems in all sorts of
environments, including telecommunications and
data centres, medical units, CAS/CAM networks, and
process control operations.
However, a Liebert Isolation Transformer can play an
important role in building power distribution by
reducing common mode noise, and its surge
suppression system will minimise any problems
caused by high-energy transients. It can also be used
as a bypass transformer for UPS installations.
Noise attenuation of 140dB is achieved with doubleshielded copper isolation transformers. The surge
suppression network reduces high-speed high-energy
transients and HF noise in the normal mode. Six full
capacity taps allow compensation of input voltages
of +5% to -10% of nominal without derating. K-rated

Transformers are particularly vulnerable to overheating
because of the harmonic currents which are generated
by non-linear loads. For applications where high
harmonic loads could be a problem, computer isolation
transformers with a K-20 rating are available, as shown
in the table. These units are designed in accordance
with UL1561 to minimise the additional losses
associated with harmonic currents and to allow full
load operation with loads up to a 20 k-factor.
