Guidelines Monash University and Museum Victoria Collaborative Research – PhD Scheme 1. Monash-Museum Victoria PhD Top-Up Scholarships For full-time PhD candidates who hold a central scholarship such as an APA or MGS’ and whose projects are either co-supervised by the University and the Museum, or are substantially focused on some aspects of the Museum collection. 2. Monash-Museum Victoria PhD Bursary Awards For all other PhD candidates who do not have any scholarships and whose projects are either co-supervised by the University and the Museum, or are substantially focused on some aspects of the Museum collection. Benefits 1. Monash-MV PhD Top-Up Scholarships • An annual stipend top-up of $5,000 for up to 3 years. A further 6month extension may be granted to the value of $2,500. 2. Monash-MV PhD Bursary Awards • An annual bursary award of $5,000 for up to 3 years. A further 6month extension may be granted to the value of $2,500. Note: If enrolled part-time, the annual bursary will be apportioned accordingly. • Number offered • Up to two (2) scholarships may be offered in the PhD category for commencement in 2016 – one in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) disciplines and one in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines - subject to suitable applicants Selection • Relevance of the project to the Monash-Museum Victoria collaborative research program; or ability to foster research collaboration • • • Quality and achievability of the research project Applicant’s record of achievement Applicants with joint Monash-Museum Victoria supervision will be highly regarded 1. Conditions that must be met for MonashMV PhD Top-Up Scholarship applicants only • Must hold or successfully applied for an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or an equivalent Monash University PhD Scholarship • Full-time enrolment status 2. Conditions that must • Australian or New Zealand citizen, holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or an International student • PhD candidates working on projects which are either co-supervised by Monash and the Museum, or are substantially focused on some aspects of the Museum collection • Commencing or continuing PhD students and enrolled in Research Quarter 1 or 2 2015, at a Monash campus in Australia • Applicants must be in the first two years of candidature and must meet all course requirements in a timely manner (eg. Milestones) Eligibility be met for all applicants Retention You must maintain full-time enrolment at Monash University and make satisfactory progression in your course Application and other information • The scholarship cannot be deferred and must commence by 31 March in the year of the award • Scholarships will be awarded for a maximum of 3 years 6 months (or part-time equivalent), inclusive of any period of intermission • Applications should be no more than two A4 pages in length (12 point font), detailing the project, its relevance to fostering MonashMuseum Victoria's collaborative research activities, relevance to the Museum Victoria collections and intended outcomes of the project • The application should include a written recommendation (Maximum 1 A4 page) from the proposed/current PhD supervisors regarding the relevance and quality of the project • A summary academic record should be provided • It is recommended that applicants discuss their project with a relevant Museum Victoria curator prior to applying for the scholarship.
