Monash University and Museum Victoria Collaborative Research – Honours
Scheme
1. The Monash-Museum Victoria Honours Scholarships are offered to
acknowledge high achieving undergraduate students and to encourage them to
continue on to undergraduate honours and Higher Degree by Research
programs.

Between $500 and $1,500 for a full-time study load for a maximum of one year

•
Up to two (2) scholarships may be offered in the Honours category in 2016 – one
in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) disciplines and one in the
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines - subject
to suitable applicants
Selection
•
Based on academic achievement and offered to students who are undertaking
an Honours research project based on the Museum Victoria collection or in
association with a Museum Victoria researcher
Eligibility
•
Australian or New Zealand citizen, holder of an Australian permanent resident
visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or an International student
All conditions
must be met
•
Commencing or continuing full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in an
Honours course and will work on projects which are either co-supervised
Monash and the Museum, or are substantially focused on some aspects of the
Museum collection
•
Commencing or continuing full-time Honours students and enrolled in 2016, at a
Monash campus in Australia
Application

The nomination should include:
•
No more than 2 A4 pages (12 point font) detailing the project, its relevance to
Museum Victoria's research activities and collections, intended outcomes and
budget requested. The budget should clearly identify the costs as they relate to
the project. Funding will not be provided for salaries, parking, thesis binding or
other costs that aren't directly relevant to the proposed research project
•
A written recommendation (maximum 1 A4 page) from the Honours supervisor
regarding the quality of the project
•
It is recommended that applicants discuss their project with a relevant Museum
Victoria curator prior to applying for the scholarship. Should no pre-existing
relationship with a Museum Victoria Curator exist, applicants should contact:

Your cannot defer the Honours scholarship
You must maintain full-time enrolment in your Honours course for the duration of
the award
Recipients will be encouraged to participate in activities showcasing the Monash
University-Museum Victoria collaboration e.g. research seminars, promotional
events
A brief final report, outlining the research outcomes, must be submitted to Arun
Kumar, arun.kumar@monash.edu by 1 December 2016
