Hang Time Purpose: To calculate the time that you are in the air when you jump as high as you can. Hypothesis: What will your hang time be? Method: 1. Measure your reach in meters by reaching up as high as you can on the tips of your toes and sticking the tape to the wall. 2. Jump as high as you can and stick the tape to the wall. 3. Measure the distance from the tape to the ground. (Jump) 4. Repeat step 3 four times 5. Subtract your reach from your jump gives you your vertical jump. (d) 6. Calculate the time (t) you were in the air using the physics equation. d = ½ gt2 7. Calculate your average time by adding the 4 trials together and dividing by 4 and record this in the box below. 8. Now multiply that # (Avg. time) by 2 giving you your hang time because you go up and down. Data: Trial # Reach (m) Jump (m) Vertical (m) = d Jump-Reach= Time (s) = t Calculations: d = ½ gt2 1 2 3 4 Average Time (s) Hang Time (s) Avg. X 2
