Rolls-Royce acquires rights to ISU technology
Rolls-Royce Corp., the second-largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, has
acquired exclusive rights to use a coating invented by Iowa State University
researchers that helps turbines stand up to the heat in jet engines.
Rolls-Royce will have an exclusive license to commercialize inventions using the
coating. Patents are pending and have the potential to be an important source of
revenue, said Nita Lovejoy of the Iowa State University Research
Foundation.
Scientists Daniel Sordelet and Brian Gleeson developed the unique coating
with Wen Wang, a former Iowa State postdoctoral student. The luxury RollsRoyce cars are made by BMW.
