Des Moines Register 03-23-07 Survey details expectations of ISU freshmen REGISTER STAFF REPORT Incoming freshman at Iowa State University are more likely to get a job to pay for college expenses and less likely to participate in student government than their peers nationally, according to a survey released Friday. UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute conducted the study of 2,777 entering freshman at ISU in during summer orientation of 2006. A total of 70,000 students from 24 public universities were interviewed. Almost 55 percent of ISU incoming freshman said chances are good they will get a job to pay for college expenses, compared to 42 percent nationwide. Fewer students expect they will participate in student government, the study said. A total of 4.7 percent of ISU incoming freshmen expect to particpate, compared to 7.4 percent nationwide.
