KCCI 8 12-07-06 DES MOINES, Iowa -- It's his first head-coaching job after two decades in the business. New Iowa State University football coach Gene Chizik sat down with KCCI on Thursday morning for an interview that you can see on "Newschannel 8 at Six." Chizik said there's hardly time for him and his family to get settled in Ames. He told NewsChannel 8 that he's building everything from the ground up. Chizik is in the process of meeting with coaches and players and developing a recruiting plan. He said he's planning to hire some new staff between now and Jan. 1, but he wouldn't say who on the current staff is staying and who is going. "I know coach McCarney had a great staff and there's a lot of great coaches. But unfortunately in this business, it's always about who you're connected with, you know? But I know there are some great coaches and I've talked with them all they'll all be given some consideration," he said. KCCI sports director Heidi Soliday will have the remainder of that interview at 6 p.m. Find out more about the coach's recruiting plan, what it's like making the transition from assistant to head coach and find out who he trusts implicitly.
