ISU: International expert to be seed science chair
An internationally recognized seed pathologist has been named Iowa State
University's seed science endowed chair, a newly created post.
Gary Munkvold will serve a three-year term, and will lead a research, outreach
and teaching program in seed health in the plant pathology department and at
the Seed Science Center.
Manjit Misra, director of the Seed Science Center, said Munkvold has "an
outstanding record in seed pathology in both the public and private sectors."
"His groundbreaking research answered many long-standing questions critical to
seed-borne disease in field crops," he said. "He is ideally suited to lead the
center's seed health program."
Munkvold, who was a plant pathology faculty member at ISU from 1993 through
2002, researched diseases in agronomic crops.
