Denver Post, CO 09-27-06 CU's ex-president Hoffman named Iowa State provost Ames, Iowa - Former University of Colorado president Betsy Hoffman was named provost and executive vice president of Iowa State University on Wednesday. Hoffman has been an economics professor at CU-Denver's Graduate School of Public Affairs since she resigned as president in 2005. She starts in January at ISU, where she was arts and sciences dean from 1993 to 1997. ISU president Gregory Geoffroy chose Hoffman after a nationwide search that drew more than 100 applicants. He called her "an exceptionally talented and experienced academic leader." Hoffman announced her resignation as CU president in March 2005 amid controversies involving football recruiting and professor Ward Churchill's essay comparing some victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to Nazi Adolf Eichmann.
