However, after 30 years the SOEs have not accumulated much technological knowhow due to a lack of bargaining power and incentives, while the global auto brands have taken 70% market share and are earning more profits than their Chinese counterparts through component sales and royalty fees. This is a lesson that will no doubt be learned in other markets such as aerospace.
