Writing Exercise 1 Pretend that the reader is someone that you have never met before. Introduce yourself. Tell him or her things that you believe are necessary to get to know you. Pretend that the reader is someone that is unfamiliar with your program and address key components and functions of your major or trade. Writing Exercise 5 In the event that you do not get your “dream job,” what are your backup plans? How do you plan on accomplishing these goals? Writing Exercise 6 Picture these four categories: Rabbit (speedy and impulsive) Turtle (slow and steady) Fox (crafty and calculating) Horse (dependable and graceful) Decide which one you are most like and explain why. Writing Exercise 9 Look at this picture: Describe what you see. Writing Exercise 10 Look at this picture: Explain what you think she is thinking. Why do you think that she is thinking that? Writing Exercise 11 Imagine that you are the boss at a Shoe Factory. Three of your employees have decided to quit. The first employee says, “I am leaving because I have found a better job. They will pay me more money and I don’t have to come to work at six o’clock in the morning.” The second employee says, “I am quitting because my favorite television show will be airing while I am at work. I do not want to miss it, so I have decided to leave.” The third employee says, “Although you are a great boss and I love working at your Shoe Factory, I have six children who really need someone to look after them. Summer break is starting and I don’t know of any sitters who will watch all six of my children. I have no other choice, I must quit.” It is your responsibility to make sure that all three employees continue to work at your Shoe Factory. Write a report explaining what you will do, as their boss, to make sure that they all stay. Writing Exercise 12 As you know, it is important to pass each of your classes. It would be even better to pass your classes with an ‘A.’ Choose one of your instructors and persuade him or her to give you an ‘A’ in their class.
