This market analysis was requested to determine market needs and ultimately what will be the
enrollment size of MCC. It will address the following research questions:
What is the potential student population that MCC serves by county?
 What are the major industries and occupations by industry sector with current and projected
hiring needs from entry-level through advanced skill/education level currently available and
other workforce development needs?
 What are the specific skill sets, competencies, industry certifications and career paths required
for current and projected jobs in these industry sectors?
 What are the school district enrollment projections?
 What is MCC’s service area’s current and projected demographics and population in the Kansas
City area?
 What is the current and projected number and background skill sets number of veterans by
county?

As of census date, MCC had 20,163 students fall 2012 and 19,318 students in spring 2013. The student
profiled is most likely to be female (58%), white (67%), traditional age (60%), and enrolled in an average
load of 9 credit hours per term. Most students are planning to transfer 72.5%, 16.4% are vocational and
11.1% are undeclared. 82% of MCC students are in-district living in one of 12 high school taxing areas
(see list below).

General Population
The Kansas City Metropolitan Area population growth was varied by school district. The schools within or very close to Kansas City have shown a
drop in population. These include Center, Hickman Mills, Kansas City and Raytown. Others close to the city showed a small growth including
Belton, Grandview, Fort Osage and North Kansas City. The suburban schools Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit, and Park Hill had
significant growth in population. Note that official census information is compiled every 10 years so 2010 is the most current data.

The time of course attendance is another variable necessary to determine capacity. 43% of MCC’s
students are enrolled in day only classes. 34% are enrolled in a combination of day, evening/weekend,
