Internship Opportunity Announcement Idaho Transportation Department/District Three Year Round, Temporary Position Title: Civil Engineering / Construction Management Intern. Duties/Job Description: Includes, but not limited to conducting inspections and measuring pay items on construction and maintenance projects. Sample highway materials and conduct tests to determine conformance to plans and specifications. Document and record test results and calculate quantities for contract payments. These positions sample soils, highway and other materials. Conduct tests of materials following prescribed testing methods. Clean, repair, and calibrate testing equipment. These positions use highway plans, specifications, maps, and aerial photos. Perform algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations. Code data for computer input, write legible reports and records, and maintain and update manuals, files and records. Communicate with co-workers and the public on a frequent basis. These positions involve working irregular schedules, weekends and holidays, in all types of weather, under hazardous conditions, on congested highways, obstructed roads, high structures, around operating equipment, and/or a noisy environment. They also involve physically demanding tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy objects. Positions also include individual tasks as assigned by the Regional Engineer. Hours: These positions will be flexible around a student’s schedule. The maximum hours per week, during school, is 20 hours per week. During the summer and breaks the intern can work up to 40 hours per week. Requirements: Current Engineering or Construction Management students that will be in their Junior or Senior year of school next semester. Must maintain at least 6 credit hours (except during the summer) to maintain position.
