How to Add a Blackboard Profile You may want to add profile information to your Blackboard account, including a photo that will appear next to your name in your courses. This photo — and any other profile information you chose to share — is visible by other Blackboard users via the My Learning Network feature, and it also appears next to your name on your discussion posts. Adding profile information is totally optional. It does require you to agree to terms of service so, if you do not agree, you can leave this information blank. But if you do agree to the terms and would like to add a profile, here’s how to do it. How to Set Up a MyEdu Profile in Blackboard First, access the My Blackboard area by clicking your name in the upper right corner of the screen. Then click on the now-blank “profile picture” at the top. This will take you to a new screen where you can edit your Blackboard profile. You will be asked to look through the Blackboard Social terms of service. The policy statement says that any Blackboard user can see the information you share unless you hide your profile. We’ll go over how to hide your profile later in this post. If you accept the terms and would like to continue the process, click agree. Page 1 of 4 You’ll then be asked to submit an email address. This email address can be your student address, if you wish, but it also can be a different address, perhaps one that you will continue to use even after you’ve completed your studies. The next screen will ask you if you already have a MyEdu account. Choose the option “I Don’t Have a MyEdu Account” and follow the prompts to begin setting up your profile. This will be the information you can choose to share with your instructors and peers in your online classes. The MyEdu account is separate from, and not managed by your school. This is why you can use a different email address to fill in your profile, but you will still need to check your LMU student email because that is how the college, and your instructors, will communicate with you. MyEdu is a website owned by Blackboard that allows users to build profiles that show their education status, skills, grades and projects. It also includes features for searching for internships, planning class schedules and reviewing instructors. After you chose to set up a MyEdu account, you’ll be asked to provide your name and your college. To add LMU to your profile, search for Lincoln Memorial University. The final next step is to choose a privacy level. You can choose to share it with other LMU users by clicking My Institution. You can also select “hidden” here, which will allow you to set up a profile that only you see. Check the MyEdu website for more information about its privacy policies and other services. Page 2 of 4 Once you’ve made your selection and clicked done, you’ll be taken to your profile. Here, you can add information about yourself in “tiles” and add a photo, if you like. Remember, if you choose My Institution, all LMU users can see this information. You can change this setting any time by accessing your profile and then clicking on Settings & Privacy. (Also click here if you’d like to delete your profile.) Once you are sure that your photo meets the requirements, click Upload New option and browse your computer for the image. Blackboard will load the picture and allow you to crop if needed. To complete your profile choose Save in the upper right hand corner. Your student profile is now complete and your image will be viewable in Blackboard. You can see other LMU Blackboard users’ profiles in your courses or via the “People” tool in My Blackboard. Access it by clicking on the smiley face icon at the bottom of the menu.
