Include costs of monitoring and surveys in project costs when preparing Sale Area Improvement (SAI) Plans. Standards for monitoring include: 1. Use K-V funded stand exams to monitor success of natural regeneration following regeneration cuts in timber sales. No other associated K-V work is prerequisite. If the K-V project is intended to modify vegetation, use standard vegetation surveys for K-V plantings and stand exams immediately after K-V thinnings. K-V may be used to monitor the effectiveness of K-V planting, TSI and other K-V funded projects. 2. K-V funds may only be used to monitor activities and effects of and for K-V funded projects. They may not be used to monitor projects or activities nor originaly funded with K-V; for example, monitoring the effects of a timber sale on endangered species may not be accomplished with K-V funds as K-V did not fund the timber sale work.
