SUMMARY: This invention is a set of novel naphthoquinone compounds, their pro-drugs, and
the related applications. Some of these compounds show significant improvement in anticancer
efficacy over beta-lapachone which is currently in clinical trials. These compounds have the
potential to be used in pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment or prevention of malignant
cell proliferation. The invention also outlines a simple efficient way to synthesize this class of
derivatives. In general, this invention provides additional new arsenal in the pro-drug space and
broader application for anticancer treatment.
