film screening
Film discussion led by Chris Kaltenbach
Tuesday, April 12, 2016
7-10 p.m. | Joppa Hall, Room 115
On a spring day in the little coal town of Matewan,
West Virginia, a shootout between striking miners
and the company detectives sent to evict their
families left ten people dead. This film dramatizes
the fight to unionize the coal mining industry,
and the efforts of protesters to remain nonviolent
in the face of strikebreakers’
armed assaults on their property.
