Addendum No. 2
Erosion and Storm Water Runoff-Mountain Lion Way
Project Number 13-002
University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS)
Facilities Services Department
Date:
Tuesday, March 26, 2013
To:
All Bidders
From:
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
Facilities Planning and Construction
Written Questions and Responses:
1. The plans state that boulders and rip rap for this project should match the boulders in Lot L at UCCS
which were described as "Buff Sandstone" at the pre-bid and site visit. Can The University tell
contractors where in Colorado this rock is available? After checking with multiple suppliers in the area,
we not aware of any supplier in Colorado that sells sandstone rock and boulders.
Response: Sample area shown at site walk desired, however a close match would be to use a
Colorado Buff Sandstone from supplier below:

2. Will the contractor be able obtain water during construction from somewhere near the project site or
will contractors be responsible for providing their own water source during construction?
Reponse: Contractor to provide water during construction. If fire hydrant were used, contractor is
responsible to coordinate with and apply for Colorado Springs Utilities temporary water fire
hydrant use permit and all applicable fees.
3. Will the contractor be permitted to use the sediment and rocks produced from cleaning the drainage
culverts on Mountain Lion Way for fill dirt to restore the washed out channel at drainageway #2?
Response: Yes, these materials can be used elsewhere on project.
4. At the pre-bid meeting, UCCS representatives stated that there were areas on UCCS campus that the
contractor could obtain fill dirt for restoration of the channel at drainageway #2. Could the owner please
confirm if the contractor will be able to obtain fill material from on the UCCS campus and where the
potential borrow sites are located?
Response: Assume that there is sufficient additional fill located at Austin Bluffs and Nevada
Avenue. If sufficient additional fill is not available, we will issue change order accordingly.
5. At the pre-bid meeting, UCCS representatives stated that any wall over 4 feet in height would require
shop drawings. Could the university clarify if the shop drawings are required for just the reinforcing steel
or for the form work as well?
Response: Concrete walls as shown base bid on drawings do not need additional structural shop
drawings. The landscape boulder/rock retaining walls over 4’ in height identified as Add Alternate
require engineered structural shop drawings and calculations. We would like to review these above
for the reinforcing to make sure the contractor has properly interpreted the plans and details.
6. In the spec book it states that the compost/soil amendments shall be applied if required – do you think
these will be a requirement?
Response: Compost/Soil Amendments is not a requirement for the permanent revegetation of the
areas identified on the plans and additional areas disturbed during construction. However,
Specification Section 31-2900, 1.6 Warranty – requires that the contractor repair any areas not
found acceptable by the Owner. It will be the contractor’s responsibility to evaluate the condition
and adequacy of the top soil after grading operations and prior to revegetation and determine if
additional measures, including the use of compost/soil amendments, are needing to be implemented
to provide revegetation that will be acceptable to the Owner.
7. Will this seeding application be accepted?
a. Broadcast and rake fertilizer (20-20-10) @ 250 lbs/ac
b. Broadcast and rake seed (foothills) @ 25 pls/ac
c. Install erosion control blanket (double layer straw/biodegradable) + 6” “U” type staples.
Response: The described seeding application meets the requirements of Specification Section 312900 and is acceptable. Product submittals for the proposed fertilizer, seed mix and erosion control
blanket will need to be made and approved prior to construction.
8. Will weekly and after storm events reports suffice for the SWMP report requirements?
Response: Provide reports per the State of Colorado SWMP permit requirements. The contractor
is responsible for pulling and maintaining the state SWMP permit along with those applicable
fees. See Addendum #1 for additional storm water compliance information.
