Chen Jianhua, the mayor of Guangzhou, China’s
third-largest Chinese city and an important center
for industry and trade, thinks highly of the R&D
expertise and the world-class manufacturing capability
of Siemens Transformer Guangzhou Co., Ltd. (STGZ),
Siemens’ only HVDC converter transformer manufac
turing location in China. The mayor visited the plant
on May 30 and was welcomed by STGZ chairman
Cai Ruixiong and STGZ deputy general manager
Yu Qunguang.
During the mayor’s visit, STGZ chairman Cai Ruixiong
briefly illustrated the company’s history, R&D expertise,
and manufacturing capacity. He also gave an account
of project references from Chinese ultra-high-voltage
power transmission projects. Ruixiong pointed out
that the company’s 15 years of development were
characterized by transformation through continuous
technical innovation and true development leaps. Early
in 2005, STGZ manufactured the first 500-kV transformer
in the Guangdong province, and in 2013 STGZ achieved
another development milestone by manufacturing the
first ±800-kV HVDC transformer for the Hami-Zhengzhou
UHVDC power transmission line, which is considered a
national key project.
Having learned about STGZ’s R&D activities, raw material
supply, and product losses, mayor Chen Jianhua
demanded that »the traditional manufacturing industry
