World-class manufacturing capability Guangzhou’s mayor impressed by R&D expertise at Siemens transformer plant siemens.com/energy/transformers Chen Jianhua, the mayor of Guangzhou, China’s third-largest Chinese city and an important center for industry and trade, thinks highly of the R&D expertise and the world-class manufacturing capability of Siemens Transformer Guangzhou Co., Ltd. (STGZ), Siemens’ only HVDC converter transformer manufac­ turing location in China. The mayor visited the plant on May 30 and was welcomed by STGZ chairman Cai Ruixiong and STGZ deputy general manager Yu Qunguang. During the mayor’s visit, STGZ chairman Cai Ruixiong briefly illustrated the company’s history, R&D expertise, and manufacturing capacity. He also gave an account of project references from Chinese ultra-high-voltage power transmission projects. Ruixiong pointed out that the company’s 15 years of development were characterized by transformation through continuous technical innovation and true development leaps. Early in 2005, STGZ manufactured the first 500-kV transformer in the Guangdong province, and in 2013 STGZ achieved another development milestone by manufacturing the first ±800-kV HVDC transformer for the Hami-Zhengzhou UHVDC power transmission line, which is considered a national key project.
