LMZ Turbines: Increased availability due to a comprehensive modernization solution Turbine Controls Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical SPPA-R3000 Turbine Controls is the perfect modernization solution with comprehensive automation functions, for gas and steam turbines from any vendor. The Task Increasing failure probability and expensive spare parts warehousing of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components used to control and protect LMZ steam turbines results in decreasing availability and deteriorating operational reliability. Your Benefits ■ Increased availability and an extended life time due to new, robust system components and fault prevention ■ Increased operational reliability using proven state-of-the-art installations ■ Enhanced flexibility using modern, intelligent automation solutions ■ Reduced maintenance costs due to easy-to-service standard components However, since both turbine and generator still retain a high residual lifetime, it is logical to modernize the old control and protection systems to meet today’s requirements for cost-effective operation of the turbosets. Our Solution SPPA-R3000 Turbine Controls offers concepts that are adapted to the specific requirements of LMZ steam turbines. The Siemens solution has successfully proven itself in more than 35 reference projects. In addition to the control system, the modernization solution can also include vibration monitoring and analysis, hydraulic components, field instrumentation and electrical solutions. The basis for this is the cutting-edge SPPA-T3000 Control System that forms the platform for governor, protection and open-loop control of auxiliaries. Due to its scalability, it can be used not only as a stand-alone turbine solution, but also for modernization of the entire plant with a uniform operating and engineering environment for all of the plant areas. Siemens' scope of supply covers the entire spectrum: from feasibility studies, to the mapping of functionalities for LMZ turbines, fail-safe protection with SIL3 certification and installation/commissioning, including integrated and complete documentation. Siemens‘ process expertise enables the joint development of concepts and solutions for LMZ steam turbines of all sizes. The SPPA-R3000 mechanical/hydraulic solutions allow for seamless integration of the I&C interface to the hydraulics. The SIL3 certified 2-out-of-3 trip block, for example, replaces existing trip devices, trip modules and mechanical protection circuits. Plant operators profit from the reduced maintenance costs with easy-to-service devices. Using the hydraulic 2-out-of-3 voting, all trip channels, from sensor to hydraulics, including the trip block, can be tested online using an integrated, fully automatic test program. Adaption of the mechanical/ hydraulic interface for the control system to fulfill the UCTE* guidelines is implemented through conversion to individual valve actuation of the HP control valves. The entire modernization, which includes replacement of the LMZ systems with Siemens technology, is completed in the shortest possible time. This helps to eliminate systembased failures of the legacy system as well as performance losses, while achieving the highest level of reliability, flexibility and availability.
