PROPOSED FENCING OF SUNNINGDALE MANAGEMENT BLOCK,
BLAAUWBERG CONSERVATION AREA (BCA)
• Availability of draft Basic Assessment Report (BAR) FOR public comment
The City of Cape Town proposes to fence the eastern and southern boundary of newly acquired land
(the Sunningdale Management Block) that has been incorporated into the Blaauwberg Conservation
Area (BCA). This land is Portion 10 (a portion of portion 1) of Farm van No. 431 (CA431); and Portion
11 (a portion of portion 2) of Farm van No. 431 (CA431). These properties are located between
Blougbergstrand and Melkbosstrand, and eastwards of the R27, being inland south and eastwards
of Blaauwberg Hill.
The proposed activity requires a Basis Assessment process and application for an environmental
authorization to undertake an activity in terms Listing Notice 3: activity 12 (GN No. R544).
Applications for exemption from certain provisions of the EIA Regulations are applied
for. These include:
• provision to appoint an independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP);
• provision to appoint independent Specialist consultants;
• from provisions of the public participation process, namely
• placement of a notice board at the site or alternative sites
• written notice to occupiers of the site
• written notice to the municipality that has jurisdiction in the area
Opportunity to Participate: Interested and affected parties (I&APs) are invited to register as
I&APs, and to provide their written comments on the draft BAR by 6 July 2011.
