Clinical Mandatory Requirements University of Delaware School of Nursing 1 What are Clinical Mandatory Requirements Clinical Mandatory Requirements is documentation of health status information that is required for nursing students to be able to participate in a clinical activities. This documentation need to be on file at the School of Nursing. You will need to provide COPIES that the School of Nursing can keep in their files. 2 Why we need Clinical Mandatory Requirements The University of Delaware School of Nursing contracts with clinical agencies to place our students in the clinical setting. By contracting with an agency, we promise our students will meet the agency’s health requirements needed to provide patient care at their site. 3 Required Health Documentation Results of a PPD skin test Immunity to Hepatitis B Immunity to Measles (Rubeola) Immunity to Mumps Immunity to Rubella (German Measles) 4 Required Health Documentation Immunity to Chicken Pox/Varicella Receipt of a Tetanus shot in the past 10 years Receipt of a Pertussis vaccine at least once Annual Flu vaccine may be required by some clinical agencies 5 Results of a PPD skin test A PPD skin test is used to check a student’s history of exposure to Tuberculosis (TB). This test needs to be done at least every 12 months, the normal result is a negative reading. 6 Positive PPD skin test results There are several reasons why a PPD skin test will be positive. It does not necessarily mean you have had TB. If your PPD skin test is +, you will need to provide additional documentation. If you have a history of a + PPD skin test, you will need to provide a copy of a recent chest x-ray report and additional documentation. 7 Hepatitis B Immunity Documentation for Hepatitis B immunity: date of 3 Hepatitis B vaccines or a + blood titer. Signed declination form. 8 Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Immunity Documentation for dates of 2 MMR vaccines after 1 year of age or a + blood titer for Measles, Mumps and Rubella. 9 Chicken Pox Immunity Documentation for Chicken Pox (Varicella) immunity: date of 2 Varicella vaccines, date of disease, or a + blood titer for varicella. 10 Tetanus and Pertussis Tetanus documentation: date of a tetanus booster in the past 10 years. Pertussis documentation: date of at least one vaccine 11 Other Required Clinical Information Copy of an active professional level CPR certification Completed local criminal background check Completed 10-panel urine drug screening 12 Professional Level CPR Certification American Heart Association: Healthcare Provider or BLS American Red Cross: Professional Rescuer 13 Local Criminal Background Checks Needs to be completed in the fall semester of your sophomore year. 14 10-panel Urine Drug Screening Needs to be completed in the fall semester of your sophomore year. 15 Submit Documentation Documentation for the Clinical Mandatory Requirements need to be submitted to the Clinical Coordinator at the School of Nursing: Karen Holden 350 McDowell Hall Phone: 302-831-0384 Fax: 302-831-2382 krholden@udel.edu 16
