Meeting Called to Order
Meeting called to order by Council Co-Chair Alana McIntyre at 7:02 pm.
Attendance was recorded by Gayle Everett.
2.
Review & Approval of September 16, 2013 Minutes
Minutes were reviewed and accepted.
4.
Business Arising from Minutes
A) Reminder that all council members must sign a “Declaration to Stand for School Council”.
B) Alana and Zoe are willing to stay until someone can take over the chair positions

New Business
A) Special Event Binder:
Theresa Howey has put together a special events’ binder with information on Family Fun Day, the Ice Cream Social,
etc. plus notes on past fundraisers. The binder is there as a reference and needs some updating. Theresa wants
current notes from this school year to add to the binder. The notes in the binder need to be saved onto a USB stick.

To be held on Saturday December 7, 10:00 - 1:00 pm with the first subcommittee meeting on Wednesday,
October 30 at 7:00 pm in school library.
Vote held on the charity that will be supported by the raffle table. Charities were, Canadian Metal Health
Association (FKA Trellis), Meals on Wheels, Autism Ontario, Sunrise Therapeutic Horseback Riding. Meal on
Wheels won.
Allocation of funds from the raffle table
Discussed how to allocate the funds from the raffle table & decided all funds will go to the designated charity.

2013 - 2014 School Council Budget:
Janet Weigel provided the 2013-2014 budget to discuss and determined where to allot council funds for this school
year.
Wish lists from the library, music department, and all divisions were provided. The council discussed the various
options and the following was voted on and accepted:

Music 30% = $ 4494.00
Library 25% = $ 3745.00
Primary 15% = $ 2247.00
Junior 15% = $ 2247.00
Intermediate 15 % = $ 2247.00
It was voted to discontinue the classroom start-up fee for this year and put those funds into the music, library and
divisions as a 30%, 25%, 15% split respectively.
There was also some discussion on the funding of the year-end staff luncheon whether to continue catering the
event or have a pot luck. It wad decided to put $200.00 towards the luncheon.

Principal’s Report

1.
On September 27 KHPS held its annual Terry Fox Run. The school raised slightly more than $6000.00 for
cancer research.
2.
This Friday, October 25 students will be dismissed at 11:50 a.m. as the afternoon is a PA Day for
teachers. This time will be used by teachers for the writing of progress reports. Progress reports go home to

parents on Friday, November 15 .
3.
On the October 11 PA Day, school staff analyzed EQAO data from the June, 2013 Primary and Junior
assessments and formulated a plan to assist our students with improving their ability to answer open ended
Math questions. Focus will be on placed on specific EQAO vocabulary and its utilization in all subject areas,
ensuring that students gain a clear understanding of its meaning and how it is to be applied.

This month the Upper Grand District School Board introduced its Stop-A-Bully online reporting tool. This
resource gives students the ability to report bullying situations directly to the principal’s inbox. Students are
able to report bullying situations anonymously, or if preferred, they can acknowledge their name in the
process.

Students in grades 4 to 8, staff and parents are encouraged to participate in Kortright’s School Climate
Survey. This survey is conducted every two years as mandated by the Ministry of Education. The
information gleaned from the survey will help prevent bullying and harassment and make our school more
safe and welcoming. Parents are encouraged to provide their input through the following
link http://www.edu-climate-surveys.ca The access code for the parent survey is 0-TGE-938-Q

On October 17 , our Grade 8 students attended the Career Pathways presentation at the River Run Centre.
This presentation is an interactive career fair that is offered to all Grade 8 students in Guelph and
Wellington County to showcase potential future career paths.
7.
Also on October 17 , four intermediate students attended the LEAF Student Environmental Leadership
Conference. This conference was designed to engage Intermediate students in environmental leadership.
The students spent the day with the Centennial CELP students at Camp Edgewood in Eden Mills. The
workshops focused on outdoor education ideas, effective leadership strategies, how to organize student
meetings, and how to organize and complete Environmental Action Projects at school.
8.
During the month of October, students at Kortright participated in the following clubs and teams; Junior and Intermediate
soccer, the Photography Club, the Drama Club, the school band, Junior and Intermediate cross country running and the
Performance Dance Club.
