DEPARTMENT NEWS Maria Johnson Welcome to new Faculty member, Dr. Maria Johnson! Dr. Johnson researches the role of race and gender within family relationships and federal family policy. Her current work examines Black women's identity construction, daughter-father relationships, Black fatherhood, and structural and cultural influences. She is currently writing a book manuscript titled, Through Daughters’ Eyes: Black Daughter-Father Relationships and Conceptualizations of Fatherhood and Womanhood. Dr. Johnson’s research has been supported by university and national grants, including the National Poverty Center. In addition to her research, she has taught and advised students within the Departments of Sociology and AfroAmerican and African Studies and the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. She earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Sociology from the University of Michigan and a BA in History from Hampton University.
