IN BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES UNIVERSITY CENTER-RAPID CITY (NSU) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION ADMISSION REQUIRMENTS: The Banking and Financial Services degree prepares for careers in all aspects of the financial industry, which include banking, insurance, credit unions and federal/state regulatory agencies. Northern State University welcomes applications from all who meet its requirements. Admission may be granted for either the regular academic year or summer sessions. All students seeking admission for enrollment in University Center-Rapid City classes must complete the Undergraduate Admission Application form and submit the related documents before admission can be determined. All materials become the property of the University and are not returned. Leveraging off of the general business core courses, the financial services classes are focused on giving the student a broad-based understanding of the domestic and international financial services business and preparing them for long term careers as leaders in the industry Classes include Lending and Credit Risk Management, Community Banking Issues, Bank Regulation and Compliance, and Asset and Liability Management. An internship with a bank or financial institution is a requirement for the banking major and helps prepare graduates for positions in the industry. Successful graduates of the Banking and Financial Services degree have careers in money centers and community banks, regulatory agencies, and in various companies in the insurance industry. The person they make contact with will assist them in the Admissions process either online or paper application. Students will pay the $20 application fee at the time of application. The Admissions Office at NSU will receive the Admission Application and will go through what transcripts and placement tests are needed, immunization records and other pertinent information. Once the student has been accepted to NSU they will then be assigned an Academic Advisor at NSU who will assist them in selecting their courses for the first year. If the student is a Business major they will work with the School of Business advisor. This visit can be done via the telephone or email (or in person, if you prefer). The degree requires completion of a minimum of 64 semester hours with 15 of those hours in general education. The Associate of Science degree cannot be awarded concurrently with a bachelor’s degree where the majority of the bachelor’s degree major courses are included in the associate’s degree emphasis.
