Course Outcome Competencies: At the completion of this course, the student will be able to: Recognize the Awareness spectrum of: diversity, avoider, perpetuator, naive, fighter, and change agent Recognize that individuals' differences can enhance productivity Showcase the unique ways that some organizations are working to manage diversity and to illustrate that other organizations are limiting their diversity initiatives to legal compliance rather than to making systemic changes. Improve critical thinking skills by developing and applying criteria to the evaluation of an organization's diversity initiatives. Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of managing diversity from an individual perspective, a group identity perspective, and an organizational perspective. 14. Attendance Requirements: The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "F". A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned above will be reported to the appropriate agency Students must be present to present final paper unless there is an excused absence. Absence will be reviewed and evaluated by the instructor. 15. Documentation of a disability must accompany any request for accommodations.” 16: Course Requirements and Grading Criteria: Mid-Term Open book Exam - Open Book 30 points – This is a take home test Weekly Diversity Reflection Checkpoints - 20 points (5 points each) – Student will be asked to write a short 500 word essay about their diversity learning experience as it relates to race, gender, religion, class, color, and disability (You can choose from the list). Diversity Person of the Year Review – 10 points Students will select a person (dead or alive) who promotes diversity and equality. Your paper start with an introduction and end with what significant achievements the person has done that qualifies he or she to a recipient of this prestigious award Final Written and Oral presentation - 30 points – Students will be required to write a 1500 word essay on diversity in the workplace and present the paper on in class. Paper will be written in the APA format and is worth 15 points. Students will also give a 5 – 7 min presentation on what their diversity topic. The presentation is worth 15 points. Presentations must be given in class unless there are extenuating circumstances. Class participation 5 points – Class participation is not class attendance. Students are expected to actively engage in class discussion each week to earn full participation points. Class attendance – 5 points – Class attendance points are earned by attending class in person or online, if the Blackboard is being used for discussion students must post required comments to receive credit. Students will need to log in the night of class to earn full points for attendance if Blackboard is the venue for discussion. (If you miss more than 2 classes you will not receive points for attendance) Grading Scale 100 – 90 89 – 80 79 – 70 69 – 60 A B C D Below 60 is Failing Instructor will not accept late work after 3 days.
