Student Congress General Meeting 16 September 2014 9:00pm Attendance What is your favorite childhood cartoon/show? 1. Roberts Rules of Order a. If there is discussion, direct comments toward Andrew. b. “I move” is the proper phrase to use when bringing something up to congress c. Someone needs to second each motion, the president will abstain from all votes, and the comptroller will abstain from all monetary votes. d. Be aware of what you are moving, because once something is seconded, the vote has to take place. 2. Board and Committee Updates a. AcAB Process of creating an ad hoc committee to discuss the definition of a credit hour, we are planning to have that done by October 21st. There is a conversation taking place about scheduling as well, and we should discuss what we as students think about this option. b. Curriculum Committee Professor Dandivatii is adding a research methods class to international studies, and she proposed a name change from Global Feminism to Women in a Global Society. There will be a new class in the Political Science department called Politics in Society in the Middle East. c. Library Committee Met with Academic Computing Committee, and they discussed a new position in the library for a facilitator to tech faculty and staff how to integrate technology into the classroom. Both committees are still trying to hash out the detail of this position so they will be bringing it back to us. 3. Task Force Updates a. Internal Strengthening Meeting after meeting briefly. b. Megan, Webmaster Making a PowerPoint so we can get to know each other better and figure out who is on what committee. c. Community Relations Kick off for Relay for Life was tonight. Relay issues a 10 for 10 Challenge, for every team that is registered and gets 10 members to register there is a fun incentive! Officer Reports a. Appropriations This is the committee that funds all student groups’ money throughout the year. They pass budgets, and approve/deny ad hocs for student groups for other things that come up throughout the year. Cook Hall Representatives are having issues with opening their mail. d. When making motions, it is good to bring up a topic and ask for discussion, from there if you want to pursue it, we have templates for proposals that congress can then vote on. e. Jacqueline moves to table both discussions (medical marijuana and mail in cook) until further information is given, it was seconded and carried. f. If you have any views of “pulse of life” on campus, send them to Allison. g. In regarding policies on campus, student congress doesn’t have the jurisdiction to change them, but we can figure out who the point of contact is, and help to connect with them to figure out what we can do to help the situation. h.
