Student Congress General Meeting 14 October 2014 9:00pm-10:00pm I. II. III. IV. Old Business a. Can anyone take the Curriculum Committee Spot, Thursday’s at 11am, as well as the Academic Computing Committee? If so, email Andrew or Rochelle. New Business a. Clothesline Project- Week of October 30th, but the t-shirts are due Thursday. i. It’s on Us to STEP Up? ii. If anyone wants to help, please email Rochelle. b. Dining Services will be here next week, and we would like to focus on a few things and as a congress vote on those things now. i. The scramble system- why was it taken out of Phelps? ii. Food options and quality over breaks, as well as how/why meal plan is not an option during breaks. iii. Dining hall hours in general c. Parking Structures i. Jean Luc and others are writing a proposal to bring more parking options to the table, and they will keep up updated on how that proposal is going. If you have and questions/comments/concerns please feel free to email them about it. d. Parking Overnight in Holland i. Can we contact the City of Holland to try to park in the streets overnight again? If we did contact the city, would that help with the on campus parking problem? Board and Committee Updates a. Academic Affairs Board- Shiku attended the Ad Hoc committee to define what a credit hour was. They are discussing the occurrence of student being unaware of how much time they should be spending on homework outside of class. b. Assessment Committee- Approved the HEAD survey which is looking to overtake the SALT surveys in the future. c. Curricular Committee- there is a new course in the Kinesiology department medical terminology. The Leadership department has changed names of courses, and eliminated the minor. d. Cultural Affairs- The committee went through budgets, and had to cut some budgets to keep their overall budget sound. Go to their events! Task Force Updates V. a. Internal Strengthening-The committee has picked out apparel options. i. They have decided on a Hockey sweatshirt, which would be around $33 (if 20 people decided to get them), and we are voting on a t-shirt option as well. The t-shirt will be white, with Hope College Student Congress in Orange with a big blue anchor behind it. b. Campus Relations- This Friday after Chapel around 10:55am the committee will be passing out Cranes donuts for all students. c. Community Relations: Relay for Life is fast approaching!! We are really close to our goal of $2250, and we are at $2100. We are in 3rd place over all. i. Our big group fundraiser will be a Late Night Pizza sale tentatively on November 6th around 9pm. The task force will send out a sign up sheet when the date comes closer, look for updates from them! Prices will depend on how much the pizza costs. ii. Next week there will a sign up sheet for the time that people will be walking on the track. iii. Keep Fundraising!! iv. Dance Marathon will be starting up very soon, and we have the same family Chloe!! d. Sustainability- Green Team met, and on November 17th there will be a sustainability 101 event to inform students on how to be greener. The green team would like to endorse Smith Cottage, so student are aware of this new cottage that is totally green. Hope is also pairing up with Black River Schools to create a community garden. Hope and Megan met with CIT to go over the computer and printer issues. i. There is a lot of debate and things to talk about so we will try to plan a meeting for CIT to come in and talk to us. Appropriations Committee a. Anything that is approved through the appropriations committee that is over $1,000 needs to be approved through general congress as well. i. The first Ad Hoc is Dutch Budget of $1,800 was requested by Dean Frost and the Administration. Passed by congress. ii. The second was for Dance Marathon Requested a stipend of $1250 for a fourth director of their dream team. It came from their advisor in Student Development. Passed by congress.
