IT Support Specialist Hours Part-time (20-25 hours per week), paid hourly Context of the Job The American Philosophical Association (APA) is the premier professional organization for philosophers in North America. Its national headquarters is located on the campus of the University of Delaware. The APA administrative office maintains membership records for over 10,000 members, produces numerous APA publications, and supports three annual national meetings of philosophers. Under the supervision of the executive director and working closely with members of the board of officers, the IT specialist is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the information technology operations of the 10-person administrative office. The IT specialist provides maintenance and support for APA computers, servers, peripherals, office machines, software, and web applications. The IT specialist implements and maintains compliance with internal and external administrative policies and procedures related to information technology best practices, security, networking, and data backup and recovery. The IT specialist also oversees the preparation and setup of IT services at the APA’s three annual divisional meetings. The principal emphasis is on IT support and maintenance, with additional administrative and application development responsibilities as needed. Major Responsibilities • • • • • Set up, maintain, support, and track inventory of all APA-owned and leased computers, servers, peripherals, office machines, and software Ensure that all operating systems, software, networks, security measures, and backup and recovery processes are up-to-date and in keeping with IT best practices and APA and UD policies Administer, maintain, and support the organization’s technology resources, including Yourmembership.com database, WordPress blog, Google Apps suite, Dropbox Business, and related websites and systems Troubleshoot computing and networking support issues related to Windows, Unix/Linux, MySQL, Apache, and PHP Oversee audiovisual support for the association’s divisional meetings, including attending all divisional meetings, arranging shipment of audiovisual and other equipment, maintaining and tracking inventory of audiovisual equipment, setting up and breaking down audiovisual equipment, and managing and fulfilling audiovisual requests; provide additional on-site meeting support as assigned by the meeting coordinator • • • • • • • • Research, evaluate, recommend, and oversee technology purchases to ensure smooth association operation, enhance current systems, and streamline technology processes and procedures Provide website analytics reports on a monthly basis, plus an annual report and other special reports as directed Provide technical assistance to staff and website users as needed, independently and in coordination with UD IT services Maintain documentation of IT systems and develop and propose technology policies Assist with the preparation of annual IT operating budget Work with the meetings staff to ensure divisional meetings’ technology needs are fulfilled Consult with and advise executive director and other staff on technology needs, application and web development, and IT best practices Develop, design, test, and implement new information systems and web applications in accordance with association needs Required Qualifications • • • • • • • • • • • Bachelor’s degree required and one year’s relevant experience, preferably in a small business, nonprofit, or academic environment. Related experience may be substituted for additional education beyond high school diploma or GED; additional related education may be substituted for required experience. Comprehensive knowledge of networking, Microsoft Office and other common software packages, Microsoft Windows and other common operating systems, programming languages, web applications, and computer hardware. Ability to troubleshoot networking, hardware, and software issues, including helpdesk and customer service skills. Ability to install and maintain a variety of computers, peripherals, and office machines. Ability to solve problems under time constraints. Ability to communicate technical information to people with various levels of technological literacy. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions, judgments, and recommendations. Ability to communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds and to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment. Ability to lift and carry audiovisual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Experience with association management software packages, preferably YourMembership.com, is preferred. Hours and Compensation: Pay commensurate with experience. This part-time (20-25 hours per week), miscellaneous wage position does not provide University of Delaware benefits.
