INFORMATION STATEMENT NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN in terms of section 33 of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Act, No. 56 of 2003 that the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality (“the City”) intends entering into a contract relating to the PROVISION OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES: THE APPOINTMENT OF A PANEL OF LEGAL PRACTITIONERS FOR THE PROVISION OF LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE COLLECTION OF DEBTS OWED TO THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN. The contract will impose financial obligations on the Municipality for a period longer than three (3) financial years. Public Comment on the draft contract is herewith sought. The City of Cape Town has on its annual Budget 2014/15 (as well as its multiyear (5) expenditure plan) made provision for this project. The contract value is estimated to be R18 million. In October 2014 the City of Cape Town issued a contract for the provision of legal services for the collection of debts owed to the City of Cape Town. This includes: Taking legal action against debtors for the collection of Municipal debt. Representing City of Cape Town in court, as part of the debt collection process. Taking the necessary action against debtors placed under administration or debt review. The ability to trace debtors as part of the collection process, may be requested, provided that this service is supplied on a “no trace no charge” basis. Assessing and reporting to City of Cape Town on the prospects and cost effectiveness of the recovery of the debt. A detailed project specification as were contained in Tender 120C/2014/15: “PROVISION OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICES: THE APPOINTMENT OF A PANEL OF LEGAL PRACTITIONERS FOR THE PROVISION OF LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE COLLECTION OF DEBTORS OWED TO THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN” is available on the City of Cape Town’s website.
