John San Agustin is a Commander with the El Paso County (Colorado Springs) Sheriff’s office, having started his career with EPSO in 1998. Commander San Agustin oversees the Major Crimes Unit, Sex Crime Unit, Property Crimes Unit, Financial Crimes Unit, Computer Crimes Unit, Victim Advocates, Evidence Facility, Cold Case Unit and the Metro Crime Lab. He created the Computer Crimes Unit, has been involved in over 200 death investigations, and is a court-qualified expert on computer forensics at both the State and Federal levels. As part of his expertise, Commander San Agustin involved in hundreds of search warrants and analyzed over a thousand pieces of digital evidence. Commander San Agustin has testified before the Colorado House Judiciary Committee on House Bill 06-1092, changing the possession of child pornography from a Class 1 Misdemeanor to a Felony 6. He has assisted in developing the Local Interagency Methamphetamine Identity Theft (LIMIT) Task Force for the 4th Judicial District Attorney. His specialty and passion is interactive crime scene applications, which he has been developing since 1992. These applications have been used with the Columbine High School Shooting ReInvestigation, the JonBenet Ramsey homicide investigation, the Laci Peterson homicide trial, and several other high profile murder cases. This same application has been used in a number of civil cases, including patent and trade secret infringement, medical malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, business acquisition, and accidental death. Commander San Agustin has appeared on many local television stations and interviewed as an expert for newspapers and magazines, along with national television media such as FOX News, CBS News, ABC News, NBC News, CNN, MSNBC, and Discovery.
