In order to keep up with the
growth and services of the UCCS
campus, the Facilities Services
department has organized itself
into two primary areas; Planning
& Construction and Physical
Plant Maintenance. The Planning
& Construction team is actively
working major projects including
the renovation of the existing
Science Bldg and Heller Property.
The Physical Plant team includes
five work groups; Maintenance,
Grounds, Electrical, Plumbing/
HVAC, and Custodial. Their
responsibilities include maintaining 890,675 square feet of
General Fund buildings along
with 250 acres of landscaped
property. Our Facilities Services
administrative team is the glue
that keeps our teams connected.
Each team is committed to the
continued improvement of the
UCCS campus and serving you.
Pedestrian
Spine
The third phase of the Pedestrian Spine is almost complete. This decorative concrete walkway serves both as
the main east/west walkway
through the central campus
and as a fire lane. To increase
pedestrian safety, new bollards are being installed in
front of Dwire Hall to prevent
unauthorized vehicles from
driving on the walkway. These bollards can be
unlocked when necessary for
deliveries, maintenance and
emergencies. In the near
future, colorful new banners
will be installed along the
pedestrian spine.

NEW FACES IN FACILITIES
With Graduation and the
reorganization of our department, some people have
moved on and we have new
faces in Facilities. Lauren
Dreiling, student, is assisting
at the Front Desk of Facilities. Mounika Namburu,
student, has been hired to
redesign our website. Look
for wonderful changes in
the near future! Robin
Grasso and Caitlin Geerdes,
students, have been hired to
work in our Sign Shop—
they are making huge strides
in getting our Sign Shop
organized and caught up.
Tom Gomez moved to Custodial servicing SENG and
now Thomas Zanandrie,
student, works with Jimmy
Muniz on Surplus work requests. Lance Hanks is now
co-supervising with Mac on
the custodial crew. A new
student on our General Maintenance crew is Michael Zamorski.
Lance Hanks
Robert McGann, has been
hired into the Grounds
crew as well. Welcome to
the new members of our
team!

CENTENNIAL HALL ALMOST COMPLETE
The renovation of the Science
Building is quickly coming to
a close. Faculty has already
moved into their offices and
research labs, furniture for
classrooms and teaching labs
arrives almost daily and the
work outside the building is
moving at a very fast pace.
The renovation includes a
complete upgrade of the interior, new heating and cooling,
lighting, and network systems. The exterior of the
building has had the brick repaired, new operable windows
installed, a new roof and entrance enhancements so you
can now find the entrances.
The site around the building is
also receiving a lot of attention
to improve drainage so the
building no longer floods, new
landscaping in front of the
building and a small amphitheater and xeriscape garden in
the “backyard.”
Finally, significant improve-
ments are being made to the
auditorium. It is being completely renovated with all new
interior, seating, lighting
(including a small amount of
theatrical lighting) and audio/
visual including high definition projection capability
along with surround sound. It
will be a breath taking “crown
jewel of the campus” for lectures, movies and small performances.
