Dr. Eldon Greij, “The Science of Climate Change”
Our HASP speaker for the April 5th monthly meeting will be Dr. Eldon Greij. A North
Dakota native, Dr. Greij came to Holland and taught in the Biology Department at Hope
College until his retirement to found and edit the highly recognized and successful
magazine "Birders World".
Since leaving the magazine, Dr. Greij has returned to teaching part-time at Hope
College and has become a much sought after speaker and writer on the subject of
climate change. If you have enjoyed his previous presentations on ornithology, you will
not be disappointed as he takes us on a scientific journey to explore and explain the very
complex study of climate change and its impact on our daily lives and its future effects
around the world.
Please join us for the exciting program, Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

COMMUNICATIONS
Has the recession hit the HASP Review? We are all aware of necessitated trends in “downsizing”,
getting more from less. The “more from less” concept has merit in times such as Biblical (Google:
loaves and fishes if you must) so perhaps there is no need for alarm. With 25 items submitted in our
six months of asking, our curiosity has been teased. Has there been a brain drain in our midst? Is there
an ink shortage? Our announced deadline for submissions is April 1 but you all know we are a
friendly, flexible lot. Send us your poems, memoirs and brain sneezes. ASAP! Help the 2011 HASP
Review be a worthy representation of our shared creativity and experiences!

Niagara on the Lake Trip – September 13-15, 2011
A real Shaw Theatre Trip has been planned for Niagara on the Lake. This is the 50th Anniversary and
they have selected great plays to offer. We will be leaving on Tuesday, Sept. 13th, stopping for both a
coffee break and box lunch on the way, and arriving in Niagara about mid afternoon. We would be
attending Heartbreak, a Shaw drama about a weekend in the country with a father and his daughters
and their dreams and illusions, on that first Tuesday evening.
Wednesday morning would give a chance to do some shopping and have lunch before seeing Candida,
a comedy about a woman caught between loyalty and passion, and who she will choose between her
pastor husband or the ardent love of a young poet. That evening we would see My Fair Lady, a
wonderful Shaw musical about a girl from the gutter being given a chance for success.
The bus will leave Thursday morning after breakfast heading for the Duty Free Shop, stopping for
lunch near there and continuing on home.
We will be staying at the Colonel Butler Inn, which is located in the town. Our dinners will be catered
by the Charles Inn, a five star restaurant. Included in your payment will be bus expenses, the coffee
break and box lunch on the way, two breakfasts, two dinners, three play tickets, and a room with
double occupancy.
The price will be $489.00 per person if sharing a room. This is payable to HASP with a $100 down
payment by May 1, 2011, unless the trip fills up before that, and the remainder due by August 1st.
Everyone must have/bring a passport. Please send in the reservation form on the last page of your
bulletin with your down payment.
