Carroll Office Hours: Room N1026 Monday 1:45pm to 2:45pm and Tuesday 2pm to 3pm Department of Business: N1012/718-260-5146 Department Secretary: Elizabeth Rohan E-mail: SCarroll@citytech.cuny.edu Course Description: The course includes the following topics: Measuring and Recording Business Transactions, Business Income and Adjusting Entries, Completion of the Accounting Cycle, Accounting for Merchandising Operations, Inventories, Internal Control and Cash, Receivables, and Accounting Information Systems. Online Course Descriptions: This is an online course that requires your active participation. You will use an online course management system called Wileyplus to submit homework assignment and to take exams. A Course Objectives: An important objective of the course is the intelligent interpretation and use of financial statements in managing and analyzing business operations. To further this objective, students will gain a firm understanding and working knowledge of: Basic accounting terminology and the process by which transactions are analyzed and transformed into financial statements and The structure and content of the income statement and the current asset side of the balance sheet. Special emphasis is placed on the measurements of assets and their associated effects on a company’s earnings. Future accounting majors will obtain a foundation that will allow them to move on to more advanced accounting courses. A secondary objective is making ethical decisions in financial reporting. Reading Material: Textbook: Accounting Principles 10th edition by Weygandt, Kimmel and Kieso YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THE COURSE WITHOUT WILEYPLUS The textbook is available in the college bookstore along with the required access code which is attached to the text. The software is called, www.wileyplus.com.. It includes the textbook online, the accounting problems that will be assigned and a number tutorial devices. Wileyplus.com is a dynamic interactive eLearning program. You will need a student access code to register for the program The access code comes with your purchase of the textbook. Grading Policy: 4 exams (every other chapter) 45% Online Assignments 40% Final examination 15% Total 100% Attendance Policy: Completion of weekly assignments is required for attendance. No more than 10% of assignments may be missed. Online participation and timely completion of assignment constitutes your attendance. Academic Integrity: Students are expected to maintain the high ethical standards that are representative of the best in the profession they have chosen to enter.
