ROTATOR CUFF INJURIES
The common cause of shoulder pain.
WHAT IS THE ROTATOR CUFF?
The Rotor cuff is shoulder stabilizing composition of
muscles and their tendons. The rotator cuff is made
up of the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor,
and subscapularis and their tendons. All the rotator
cuff muscle originate on the scapula and insert on
the humerus. The muscles are used to stabilize the
glenohumeral joint. This stability allows the
glenohumeral joint to perform movements such as
abduction, and internal and external rotation.
INJURIES TO THE ROTATOR CUFF
Most shoulder pains will come from the rotator cuff.
Rotator cuff injuries are commonly associated with
repetitive over head actives. Some of these activities

ROTATOR CUFF TEAR
There are two different causes of rotator cuff tears
 Degenerative Tears (over use, low blood
supply, or repetitive motion)
 Acute Tears( sudden blow, falling on out
reached arm, or excessive hitting force)
Major injuries to the rotator cuff include:
 Rotator Cuff Impingement/ Tendonitis
 Rotator Cuff Tear
ROTATOR CUFF IMPINGMENT/
TENDONITIS
Rotator cuff impingement is cause by repetitive over
head movement that decreases the space between the
acromion and the supraspinatous tendon and
shoulder bursa, creating a pinching affect. The
pinching or rubbing creates irritation and pain.
