37 hours per week- You will be required to work daytime and
early evening shift patterns with some weekend work.
Job Purpose
To provide a counselling service, based at Rotherham Rise Outreach Service, for women,
men and young people aged 12 upwards who live in Rotherham and who have been
affected by Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). To take referrals directly from Rotherham
Rise and external agencies.
Main Duties
 Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with clients
 Agreeing a counselling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions
(including confidentiality issues)
 Encouraging clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with
others.
 Actively listening to client concerns and empathising with their position.
 Accepting without bias the issues raised by clients.
 Support the development of the counselling service
 Undertake supervision related tasks for the CSE counselling team

Direct Work
Carry out counselling assessments with service users and provide short-term
or long-term counselling interventions as appropriate.
Agreeing a counselling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions
(including confidentiality issues).
Keep up-to-date records of counselling sessions and input relevant data onto
the project database.
To operate in a client-centred, non-judgmental manner.
Liaise with Social Care and other professionals as appropriate, within the
context of confidentiality and in accordance with Rotherham Rise policies and
procedures.
Assist service users towards a deeper understanding of their concerns,
challenging any inconsistencies in what clients say or do.
Assist service users to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways
forward.
Refer service users to other sources of help, as appropriate; liaising, as
necessary, with the CSE team to help make changes based on the issues
raised by clients.
Work to agreed targets in relation to service user contact.
Develop and sustain relationships with other professional agencies to ensure
the co-ordination of responses to meet the needs of adults and children.
Work with clients on an outreach basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day support to the counselling staff team.
Provide regular line management support, one to one’s and appraisals, and
case work supervision.
Ensure the effective management of referrals, their allocation and staff
workloads.

Ensure the practical and emotional needs etc. of adults and young people,
are met through the provision of appropriate counselling.
Hold regular case management meetings and others as appropriate.
Providing specialist support and knowledge to other staff to ensure
child/adult protection issues are dealt with appropriately, under the guidance
of the Service Manager.
Support the development of the counselling service provision including
ensuring the appropriate recording and practice is undertaken.
Administration
Assist with the preparation of in-house information and publicity materials.
Contribute to reports for the management group, including the annual
report.
Collate monitoring statistics, record outcomes, and produce appropriate
reports – including providing the information needed to complete funding
returns in a timely manner.
To maintain accurate and up-to-date records in relation to all service users
supported adhering to data protection and other information management
requirements.

Implement the policies and procedures of Rotherham Women’s Refuge.

Complete the Rotherham Rise induction and undertake other relevant

To maintain professional accreditation and/or registration and ensure that
professional clinical supervision is undertaken in accordance with accredited
status.

accordance with new practice requirements as and when required
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the law and practice relating
to counselling, child protection and other relevant areas.

Relevant recognized qualification(s) at

minimum diploma level 5, in the field of
psychotherapy, counselling, arts therapies
and/ or psychology.
