You will enter a world of ten different psychological activities that promise to be exciting and educational. You will leave feeling that psychology looks in on many aspects of life that you never really thought of or viewed as, in this manner. The ten activities are listed below, so be sure to check them out! The Body Project The Body Project is a university-wide, highly respected body acceptance program for college woman. The mirror exercise will be conducted throughout our special night. An activity that promises to deliver mind expanding fun and interesting takeaways for all that get involved. Canine Science Collaboratory Who doesn’t love dogs? The Canine Science Collaboratory sure does. They will be featuring tests that look in on the memory of aging dogs in a maze because as dogs get older – they may lose memory and cognitive capabilities, just like people do. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to go to the dogs. Please note that they welcome volunteer dogs from the community, but ask that you NOT bring your own dog to this event. Adolescent Substance Use, Health, and Behavior Cognitive ability predicts a person’s access to a college education, lifelong total income, access to a good job and performance on the job. It also predicts one’s health and longevity. Come learn about how marijuana may affect your cognitive ability. You will be offered a chance to test your own cognitive ability as well! BARCA lab – Alcohol Perception and/or Norms Learn about how they study alcohol effects and how this information can be applied to protect yourself and your friends from the harms associated with alcohol use during college. You can be part of an experiment that involves shooting baskets, in a very different way. We know you will find it informative and fun. Neuroscience of Memory and Aging - Brain Investigation Station – What’s Inside Your Head? Have you ever wondered what brains are made of and can do? At the Brain Investigation Station, learn about the parts of the brain and how they work through fun, hands-on activities. Come see and touch a real brain or build a neuron from scratch. You’ll find answers to questions you never knew you had! For more information on this lab please see http://vimeo.com/21946863 Perception, Ecological Action & Learning Lab Michael McBeath’s research focuses on computational modeling of perception-action in dynamic, natural environments. Specialty areas span sports, robotics, music, navigation, and multisensory object perception. The most widely known work is on navigational strategies used by baseball players, animals, and robots. Memory and Attention Control Laboratory We conduct research investigating the basic memory and attention mechanisms that support a wide range of human behavior. Our approach borrows designs from three traditions in psychology including experimental, individual differences, and neuroscience. Child Study Lab Drop-in to see what ASU’s Child Study Lab includes from pretend play to open-ended creative and sensory experiences (painting, sand and water play, modeling clay, collage activities, etc.), construction activities with blocks and manipulative toys, mathematics and language games, gardening, and cooking and science activities. Psychology Advising – The True Backbone of Your Psychology Dept. Advising is the true backbone of your psychology department. Come in and learn why your advisors are so important to your success as a psychology student. Advisors will be available to answer questions and give you a general overall look into what their guidance means to you as you navigate through your scholastic investment while attending ASU. The SoLET Lab Literacy is a skill that is imperative to master, unfortunately the majority of High School students and adults are not at the proficiency level expected for their age. The SoLET Lab focuses its research on finding ways to improve student and adult literacy using intelligent tutoring systems. These technologies offer strategy instruction and practice through a game-based environment. Come see us to learn how you can improve your literacy skills using these tutoring systems! The Conditioned Feeding Laboratories In omnivores, such as rats and humans, most food preferences are produced by experience. This research aims to understand the learning processes that produce conditioned food preferences. Come explore how people develop food and flavor preferences!
