Thrive on busy schedule? Sufficient time to complete assignments for multiple honors classes? Effort, though admirable, is not a substitute for skill Extra help should not be used as private tutoring Honors/Advanced Placement courses do not include extra credit or “do-overs” Exit Criteria for Honors/AP Classes • Any student in an Honors or AP class maintaining an average in the 70’s mid-way through the first quarter will be notified that his/her standing in that course is in jeopardy. Parents/guardians will also be notified at this time of their child’s status in class. • Any student with a grade below 75 at the conclusion of the first quarter will exit the Honors or AP level and enter the Regents level program as the building schedule permits. • All grades will be monitored throughout the school year for exiting purposes. Course Selection and options for your 9th grader • English English 9R or English 9H • Social Studies Global History & Geography 9R, or Global History & Geography 9H • Mathematics Algebra I (Common Core) for students currently in Math 8 Geometry H or Geometry R for students currently in Integrated Algebra • Science Physical Setting/Earth Science for students currently in Science 8 Living Environment/Biology H or R for students currently in Physical Setting/Earth Science Course Selection and options for your 9th grader Foreign Language – Languages Other than English (LOTE): Spanish 2R or 2H for students who pass the Local Assessment in June Italian 2R or 2H for students who pass the Local Assessment in June Spanish IR or Italian IR for students who: - are currently taking reading at the middle school level - do not pass the Local Assessment in June - are taking “Intro. Spanish” or “Intro.
