Important Points When Considering
Honors Placement For Your Child
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Active learner
Emotional maturity
Independent learner
Significant after school commitments? Thrive on busy
schedule?
Sufficient time to complete assignments for multiple
honors classes?
Effort, though admirable, is not a substitute for skill
Extra help should not be used as private tutoring
Honors/Advanced Placement courses do not include
extra credit or “do-overs”
Exit Criteria for Honors/AP Classes
• Any student in an Honors or AP class maintaining an
average in the 70’s mid-way through the first quarter will
be notified that his/her standing in that course is in
jeopardy. Parents/guardians will also be notified at this
time of their child’s status in class.
• Any student with a grade below 75 at the conclusion of
the first quarter will exit the Honors or AP level and enter
the Regents level program as the building schedule
permits.
• All grades will be monitored throughout the school year
for exiting purposes.
