H: What time will you be home from work sweetie xx
R: I’m going to see Joe tonight, I won’t be home until late x
H: Really?
H: Why do you always spend time with him
R: I don’t, but you know he is in a bad way, he isn’t very well x
H: I don’t know – I’ve never met him and I don’t see why you have to help him
R: He doesn’t have anyone else x
H: Whatever, maybe you should just try and spend more time with your family reece
Thursday 15th may
R: I only have 5% battery left, so it will die before I get home, just thought I would let you
know xx
Friday 16th may
R: Don’t hang up the phone
H: Well don’t talk to me like that, I am fed up with all your crap.
R: What do you mean, my crap. Now what have I supposedly done wrong?
H: All you care about is your friend, you are more interested in spending time with him and I have
had enough.
R: Why do you always bring it up again, we sorted this the other night.
H: Except we didn’t though did we, because you keep lying to me.
H: I called your work today, funnily enough I spoke to James and he said you weren’t in today, you
had gone to see a friend. Let me guess???
R: Ok fine, Joe asked if I would go see him. Why is it any of your business.
H: Even if that was true it wouldn’t be much better.
R: What do you mean.
H: Amy saw you in …., so why do you keep lying. You weren’t with Joe. I don’t think he is the one
with the problem. I think you are! Sort yourself out reece.

problems but I didn’t think things were this bad what makes it worse is that I just don’t know why
you did it I have talked with everyone no one can tell me anything I have tried to find your friend Joe

Dear Dr. Ashford
I wondered if you might be able to help with a matter regarding a friend of mine. Lately he has
seemed quite depressed. I do talk to him about it but he is quite negligent to the idea that he might
have a problem and he certainly will not go to the doctors. I try to see him as much as I can as I do
feel sorry for him but I don’t know how I can help him and what to do, which is why I thought I’d try
contacting you.
Kind regards
Reece Taylor
Dear Reece
First of all, can I ask why you think he has a problem with depression, what symptoms has he
shown?
Dr. Ashford
Dear Dr. Ashford
He is continuously in a low mood and sad, feeling helpless, anxious and he has a very low selfesteem. He has no motivation or interest in anything and gets no enjoyment out of anything. He
does not work and he has no family so he is pretty much always alone and he feels he has nothing to
live for.
As I said, he will not consider that he needs help and I don’t know what I can do for him.
Reece
Dear Reece
Your friend certainly sounds like he is displaying quite severe signs of depression but at this point I
am obviously in no position to assess his condition and can only make an observation based on what
you have told me. If he will not have any interaction with, or seek any advice from professionals then
you should suggest he look at the NHS website for clinical depression http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Depression/
You could also help him by printing off the leaflet which is on that page and try and go through it
with him.
I also suggest that you look through this page which offers support to those who are dealing with
friends or family suffering with depression - http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/stress-anxietydepression/Pages/depression-help-groups.aspx
Despite what you have said I would really recommend that you go with him to see a professional
who will be able to offer ample support but failing this I suggest you try to talk to him about it and
also there are a lot of support groups which can be found on the first website I provided - these can
be very beneficial. In the meantime you should continue to offer any support but ensure you keep
an eye on his condition and should you feel it is worsening to a point that is seriously beyond your
control, please contact me immediately.
Dr. Ashford

Reece,
Have you finished the atlas reports yet, I need the Ctt-s1 and Hbbs556 forms no later than tuesday
to get approval in time. I know you were off today and so I am guessing they are not finished yet, but
just make sure they are done though.
