Textbook: Prentice Hall Writing and Grammar & Write Source
Course Description: During seventh grade, students expand their uses of descriptive words and
complex sentences, as well as their choices of modes of writing. Throughout seventh grade, students
continue to develop the ability to critique constructively their own and others’ work. Seventh grade
writers often attempt to imitate favorite authors, demonstrating increasing evidence of the author’s
craft in their own writing. Because the degree to which a student observes writing conventions is often
proportionate to that individual’s reading prowess, a natural increase in writing, editing, and
proofreading skills results.

Wednesday remediation groups with the teacher.
Make-up Policy: Creekland’s makeup policy will be followed. When a student is absent, it is the
responsibility of the student to make up his or her work. Please check my website for information in
the event of an absence. If students are absent for more than three days, the parents may request
the in-class and homework assignments for their child by calling the school. We require 24 hours
notice to have assignments ready to pick up in the front office by a parent. Missed tests/quizzes may
be rescheduled with me individually.

Late work: We will follow the CMS homework policy.
Class format: Class will begin with time for each student to copy the daily activities and
homework into his/her agenda. Each class period will begin with a daily warm-up reviewing and
reinforcing skills. The warm-ups, as well as handouts, notes, and returned papers will be kept in the
student’s binder or notebook on a daily basis. The class will consist of a variety of learning strategies
that will give students an opportunity to gain knowledge in the conventions of grammar and the
writing process. Vocabulary and spelling lessons will be imbedded into the writing and grammar
program.
Class Rules: Students will follow all rules listed in the Creekland Middle School handbook and
agenda as well as my class rules and procedures.
