Charlie My first impression on USE OF ENGLISH My first impression on Use of English is that it is a very difficult subject for me. Maybe it is harder to learn than other subjects. I am studying Physics, Chemistry and Math & St which are English subjects. To get a high grade in these subjects, first, I need to have a higher English level. However, my English is so poor, especially the writing skills, oral and grammar. Now, I am a secondary six student, it is very difficult to find any course to learn the English grammar once again.( I have planned 15 Sat lessons for your guys starting from 20/9 so just come back and attend more lessons!) I always think that, can reading more really help me to improve my English skills? Does listening more can help me to speak well? If these arereally helpful, how many books, magazines, TV programmers, etc.do I need to read, watch and listen? If I want to learn the grammar once again, and then improve it step by step, do I need to buy some lower from grammar exercise books to do? My first impression of Use of English is that I am confused!. The key word in Use of English,in my opinion is “use”. The main point is to use English more frequently in our daily life. That means we need to write grammatical English, understand spoken English when we are doing listening, use English for communication, read English for general understanding. In the ASL UE, the writing section has a great difference with CE. For example we need to write some compliant, inquiry and application letters. It has many themes that we need to argue for. That’s more formal than CE. In argumentative essays, we must find some points which are not so common. If every candidate write similar essays, the marker may feel bored. But to think of a special point is not an easy job. Also, these essays must contain many vocabularies. In your power point, I have found a very special point that I had never ed before, that is “Check time when reading”. Yes, thatis quite important in UE, especially in section E, and also in other subjects. Chemistry teacher, Miss So told us, in secondary six and seven, we must read more, just like CE . Who doesmore past paper will get a higher mark, and in AL who readsmore books will have a better result. Now, I hope I can get a better grade in ASL CE, so I will try my best to improve my English. My dear Teacher, could you mind tellingme which books can improve my English skills? Which exercises can improve my grammar? And how can I improve my speaking skills. Besides,my voice is quite low when I present. Too many worries already. Just do as you’re told and take it step by step. Things will work out for themselves! Yet, pay more attention to sentence sstructure and elarn when to separate your sentences! 4/9(content) 3/9(language)
