Developing the Spelling, Punctation and Grammar
of Children Who are Struggling to Make Progress
For all KS 1 and 2 Teaching and Support Staff
The new emphasis on grammar, punctuation and spelling will make additional demands of
our learners. This course will enable you to develop specific skills to support struggling
writers to make progress. You will:






Consider the knowledge and skills which are now being required of pupils through to
the end of KS2, including checking your own knowledge of grammatical terms etc.
Examine the nature of the difficulties which will inhibit children's learning
Explore ways of assessing the skills and knowledge of the pupils
Explore a range of techniques to help children ‘at the point of’ writing
Be introduced to ‘tried and tested’ activities to use with individuals and groups to
develop specific skills etc.
Receive a disc packed with useful resources to support the above. It will include
terminology revision cards, spelling rule reference cards, ready made passages for
punctuating and much more.
