Project Guidelines:
1. Monologue Recitation:




Choose a speech from the play that is fifteen lines or more.
Print a copy of the speech, and annotate it. Examine the speech’s context,
deeper meaning, and emotion.
Analyze the character’s thoughts, words, actions, and emotions. Then, memorize
this piece to present it to the class.
You will recite this from memory with intense emotion. Props and costumes that
enhance the speech are welcomed and encouraged!
2. Scene Modernization:





Work with 4-5 group members to recreate a scene from the play.
As a group, you should analyze the characters, theme, setting and language.
Then, modernize and recreate the scene. Include a comparable setting, engaging
language, and meaningful characters. However, the theme and main ideas from
the original text should remain the same.
You must turn in a script with a paragraph analysis justifying your choices.
Using your creativity, you will rewrite the script into a modern version and
perform the scene from memorization with props and costumes. The
performance should last 4-5 minutes.
3. Talk Show:


Imagine you are on a talk show with a famous talk show host.
You will work with 4-5 group members to produce a detailed script and 5-7
minute talk show.

Block: ______
One of your group members will be the famous talk show host (i.e. – Ellen, Steve
Harvey, Oprah, Maury, Wendy Williams, etc). The other group members will be
characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream that are being interviewed.
You should creatively incorporate at least one quote from the text for each
character.
Generate questions that delve into the play’s themes and express the authentic
development of the characters.
You will perform the talk show without a script for the class with props and
costumes.
1. Wedding Planner





Pick one couple from the play (Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, or
Theseus and Hippolyta). After choosing the couple, you will plan their wedding.
First, you will choose a location and décor theme for their wedding that relates
to the couple’s relationship. Include an image of the décor theme to use in the
specified location. Then, write a paragraph explaining the location and décor
theme. Be imaginative!
Choose a song for their first dance that relates to that particular couple, and
include those lyrics. Then, write two paragraphs explaining about why this song
is fitting for your chosen couple. In your analysis, you should reference quotes
from both the song and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Finally, choose a clever wedding gift that is specific to the couple, and write
another paragraph explaining the significance of this gift.
In planning the wedding, you should consider how the theme of love developed
for this couple throughout A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
2. Journal or Diary





Choose a character, and analyze his/her development throughout the play.
Write eight journal entries in first-person point of view. In these entries, YOU
ARE THE CHARACTER. Each journal entry should be AT LEAST one paragraph
long.
The entries should be meticulously written and explore the character’s
complexities with enhancing illustrations.
Within this journal, you should incorporate one quote from the text per entry,
and your entries should address the various themes throughout A Midsummer
Night’s Dream (love and marriage, appearance versus reality, and balance).
Place the journal entries in sequential order, and compile them into a creative
“book.
