VALLEY CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL PHYSICAL SETTING: CHEMISTRY 2015-16 MRS. BASHER Course Description: This course follows the New York State Physical Setting: Chemistry curriculum. It is the study of matter and the changes matter undergoes. The first semester focuses on the structure, composition, and properties of matter. The units of study include: Matter and Energy, Atomic Structure, Nuclear Chemistry, The Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding, and the Mathematics of Chemistry. The second semester is the study of the behavior of matter and chemical reactions. Topics include: Kinetics & Equilibrium, Solutions, Acids & Bases, Oxidation & Reduction, Electrochemistry, and Organic Chemistry. Laboratory Requirement: The New York State Education Department requires all students taking a Regents science course to complete a laboratory requirement. The Valley Central High School laboratory requirement consists of 90 laboratory periods which must be documented by student written reports. These written reports must be handed in on time and receive a passing grade of 70. These lab reports will be kept on file by the teacher. Failure to complete this laboratory requirement will result in a student being barred from taking the midterm and regents exams and failure in science for the year.
