Ways It Is Often Used: This is the fancy word for that feeling of knowing what something means, but not being able to say the exact dictionary definition. Connotation is the unofficial meaning of a word. Sample Sentence: The dictionary definition of “crank” means a handle used in a turning motion to raise or lower something; however, the connotation of “crank” can mean a type of illegal drug. 4. Connotation 5. Embellish V meaning to decorate or adorn; to improve a story by adding details, even false ones . Ways It Is Often Used: This is another way to say that you added details to something. Sample Sentence: Jordan used glitter and scrapbook paper to embellish Kyle’s locker. 6. Imbibe V meaning to drink; to drink in or absorb; to take in with the mind and keep (as in ideas or principles). Ways It Is Often Used: This is an old-fashioned way to say you drank something. Sample Sentence: Lots of people imbibed way more alcohol than they should have at the party. 7. Nostalgic ADJ meaning having a longing for things past. Ways It Is Often Used: This is a great word to use when you are thinking about things you miss about the past.
