Description of survey indicators of travel & tourism companies, in statistics directorate of
transport &communications
1- Data sources
Transport sector considered one of the importance sectors in several socioeconomic activities, in
addition, contribution to gross domestic product and operation of labor , travel & tourism companies
considered an important means of marketing the tourism activities, like a travel in all forms by
transport , and get an adequate shelter in hotels and camps , according to central statistical
organization plan ,these companies are covered by survey ,to provides statistical indicators of sector
activities for beneficiaries. CSO implemented a survey at year 2004 of travel &tourism companies for
2002, 2003 depending on framework of all these companies except (Kurdistan region) .prepared on
coordinate with travel and tourism companies. Because of the importance of activity indicators .survey
is implementing for subsequent years after framework annually updated.
Tourism considered important financial resource, many countries depending on tourism in its
economic, the purpose of survey to providing a statistical indicators and publishing a data of travel
&tourism companies in private sector, and know absorptive capacity of tourism field and resources and
hope to developing this survey in the future to serve beneficiaries, especially after Iraq's return to the
World Tourism Organization (WTO) after a break of 20 years. Transport field plays an important role
because of distributive services , the importance of transport not just in tourist field ,but in several
socioeconomic activities ,through logistical support, provided to all economic activities ,considered a
distributive activity and operation of labor .transport considered important way for marketing tourism
activities through the time and cost by plans and programs of travel &tourism companies , which
organizes tourist trips of external and internal For a fee or proportion of hotels and camps and fee or
proportion from transport companies for serving tourists and passengers .whereas external tourism
requires coordination with same companies and with land transport, maritime and airlines companies
to Providing services in the best way.
2- Methodology: data administrative system depended on administrative register, balances
sheet and final accounts, depending on a framework for all travel and tourism companies for
private sector of Iraq, questionnaire was designed by requires of national accounts directorate
And taken out finalized in consultation with CSO directorates .
Questionnaire contains three parts:
1- Cover: contains Meta data of governorate, district, company name, company address,
foundation year and building number.
2- Data tables : is actual indicators of production through survey period , this part covered
number of workers ,cost ,capital expenses, intermediate consumption , resources achieved as
well as other expenses and passengers number.
3- Instructions: this part specialized to definition indicators and required data in first and second
part of questionnaire.
Within a plan of CSO, travel and tourism companies of private sector covered by survey for providing
statistical indicators to explain this activity for beneficiaries purposes, and getting a details indicators in
gross domestic product by evaluated projects .
Because of the importance indicators of this activity, survey implemented for subsequent years after
framework annually updated coordination with travel and tourism companies through the year of
survey 2011 covered Kurdistan region.
Work period: survey begins at February for three months.
International standards and classifications: data is collected by standards and international
classifications that depending by national accounts directorate in CSO and WTO.
Concepts, definitions, variables and indicators:
Tourist Company: a corporation owned by person or many persons at working capital, provides a high
value and fine services to the tourists whether from internal –external of country.
Gross production value: income earned from transport & tourism and tickets sales and income
earned of any services provided by company for incomes with same tourism company (rents income,
operating…. Etc).
Intermediate consumption: commodities and services that consume input of production process ,
except fixed assets ;considered consumption of fixed capital , may be manufactured commodities and
uses services in production process , Some inputs back to appear after turned and incorporated in the
output, there are input consume totally like electricity …etc .
Value added at product price: gross production value (incomes) minus equipments value the valueadded measure of the contribution of the product or activity or sector in gross domestic product.
Workers compensation: a work income like wages, Cash and in-kind advantages paid for all workers
for the services they provide.
Operating surplus: increasing from added value of Workers compensation cost and calculated from
production.
Fixed capital formation : it is total annual added of fixed assets Minus assets that have been disposed
of ,and divided by existing type (builds, machines, instruments ,furniture and transports …etc ) Fixed
capital formation depending on energies of society to production capital commodities . And Fixed
capital formation become totally unless minus the extinction, classified by sector, activity and existing
type.
Classifications: survey depending on travel &tourism companies of private sector in Iraq with
Kurdistan region, and will be covered all tourist activities at future by tourism international
classification.
Methods of calculation:
Added Value at product price= production Value at product price – intermediate consumption.
Added Value at basic price= Added Value at product price-fees &taxes value.
Operating surplus: Added Value at basic price –workers compensation.
Net Investment =added –excluded.
Last year stock of fixed existing =stock of beginning year +added- excluded-extinction.
Geographic average for data publishing: completed reports and surveys sending to statistic.
directorates in governorates with the region, so reports published by internet division.
Periodic report: survey implemented every two years since 2004.
